Who should participate in the SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards & Conference?
SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards is open to entries for the Awards Gala and the Sports conference for entities directly or indirectly involved in sports and/or sports development within the eligible region regardless if these represent a brand, agency, right’s holder, governing body venue operator or event organizer.
What is the meaning of “Eligible Countries” as used in SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards & Conference?
It means the 47 countries as per the definition of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). These countries include the following: Afghanistan, Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Chinese Taipei, East Timor, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Northern Mariana Islands, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.
Are Agencies eligible for Entry?
Yes. Agencies may enter on behalf of clients/principal. Agencies must however ensure that they are authorized by their respective client/principal. Any marketing communication efforts, whether full campaigns or unique efforts within a campaign are eligible to enter.
The 2017 edition of SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards will only accept entries coming from the eligible countries, within the defined period from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017.
When is the opening and closing of entry submissions for the 2017 Edition?
Submission for the 2017 Edition will open from 18 April 2017 until 8 September 2017.
Are the Awards open to entry submissions operating outside of the countries listed?
Generally, only entries from listed countries are accepted, except for 2 submission instances such as: (1) For Best Global Sports Organization Operating in Asia where an organization submitting could come from outside of the listed countries provided it has presence and/or reach in any Asian countries, and (2) Local or Thailand Categories where entries should only be coming from Thailand.
Are there any revenue criteria for eligibility?
No. Submissions from Small to Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) are most welcome as long the event/campaign has run or operate in one or more of the eligible countries within the defined period from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017.
Each submission’s data should be by country; data should not be aggregated over several countries. As long as it can prove results and properly credit the partners who helped to create the marketing communications campaign.
Does it matter exactly where and when my event/campaign ran?
No. As long as the event/campaign happens/happened in one or more of the eligible countries within the defined period from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017.
Can I enter my event/ campaign in more than one category?
Yes. A separate entry submission is needed for each entry, subject to the conditions set-forth infra that only the shortlisted entries shall be paid for accordingly.
Must the entry/entries be in English?
Yes, all entries need to be submitted in English.
What if my event/campaign ran in another language?
Non-English language campaigns are welcome. Please note in these cases the entry must be completed in English and any supporting marketing materials which were originally another language must be accompanied by written English translation.
If I want to withdraw my entry will that be possible?
You can withdraw your entry at any time before the entry deadline. However, shortlisted entries cannot be withdrawn.
Do we need to pay an entry fee upon submission?
No. SPIA ASIA does not charge an entry fee upon submission. Only the top 10 shortlisted entries per category are required to be paid for.
How can we pay if our entry is shortlisted?
Payment shall be made online via www.spiaasia.com on or before 13 October 2017.
What are the benefits extended to entrants whose entry/ies is/are shortlisted?
SPIA ASIA extends one (1) Complimentary Gala Dinner Invitation and one (1) Conference Delegate Pass per Company/Brand to all Top 10 Entries per category worth USD 550.
Can I change my entry after it has been submitted?
A change to your submitted documents once the entry deadline has passed is not permitted but you can enter in additional categories for the same event/initiative prior to the entry deadline.
Supporting materials can always be added to an existing entry subject to the entry criteria of the particular category and prior to the entry deadline.
Can entries be disqualified?
Yes. The following are grounds for disqualification of entries: (1) Ineligible countries, date of event/campaign, and/or submitting entities; (2) Submitting entity is not registered with competent government authority, (3) Submitting low-quality entries, (4) Missed submission deadline, (5) Entry contains false or misleading or discriminatory or provocative information, and (6) Using the entry as a communication channel for political or religious views and opinions.
If I would like to submit an entry but the data corroborating its success is highly confidential, what can I do?
Security and confidentiality are of paramount importance to the SPIA Asia. All data and entry materials will be treated with utmost confidentiality by the judges and event organizers. All entries are stored in a secure place away from non-authorized personnel and shred after the Gala Presentation. Judges and those present throughout the judging are required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Highly confidential data may be indexed in lieu of exact numbers but data in that form must be substantiated as much as possible and provide verifiable corroboration from as many sources as possible e.g.: research company, tracking studies, agency evaluation etc.
It is vital that the entrants provide as much context as possible re: the campaign rationale and any environmental/cultural issues that influenced the marketing strategy which produced the results.
Entrants are encouraged to be as open and specific as possible. The more details provided, the stronger the submission will be.
Will SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards publish the results/campaign details?
Yes. Results and case studies may be published by various media partners in print or online publications. If the entrant does not wish to publish specific data relating to the entry, the entrant would then simply state on the application form that specific application data may not be for publication. It must be noted however that all materials from shortlisted entrants which is shown at the Gala Presentation is deemed eligible for publication by SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards.
How were the judges selected?
The judges are acknowledged experts within the industry who best understand landscape of sports industry in Asia. Judges come from various sporting industry disciplines across all fields including agencies, brands, organizers, rights holders, venue operators, etc.

How are the entries judged?
SPIA Asia has formed an advisory board (the Awards Committee) and engaged 20 industry experts to serve on the judging panel which will review and score the shortlisted finalists in strict accordance with international award standards. The judging process consists of 4 steps:
(1) Review of the submissions, (2) Telephone/ direct interviews to do a deeper dive on the best shortlisted submissions in each category, (3) Shortlisting and announcement of all the shortlisted submission finalists, and (4) Final review of the shortlisted submission finalists by the judging panel.
To ensure and maintain transparency and credibility throughout the entire judging process, necessary measures are established in verifying entries, handling and securing of all written and digital materials relating to the results, for compiling the score reports and certifying to the accuracy of the scores within the report.
No representatives of SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards & Conference will be involved in the judging process.

When will I know if my entry has been successful?
SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards will announce the shortlisted entries on 27 September 2017 but final voting will not happen until 6 November 2017. The announcement of the Winners is scheduled for the Gala Presentation Ceremony on the evening of 7 November 2017.
How can I attend the Awards Gala dinner?
SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards delegates need to make a separate table booking in order to attend the Awards Gala dinner. SPIA ASIA – Asia’s Sports Industry Awards offers delegate table bookings and VIP table bookings via www.spiaasia.com. Please note that table bookings are limited in numbers and subject to availability on the day of inquiry, considering the expected attendees from 47 countries.
What is the Sports Conference and how can I attend?
The Sports Conference is aimed to bring regional sport industry experts to meet with the top officials within the regional sports landscape. The conference segment entitled “The Business of Sports – Asia’s Sports Industry in the Fastlane III” is scheduled to take place from 6-7 November 2017 in Bangkok, once again will gather the industry leaders during a two-day period to discuss best practices and latest developments within the sports industry with key focus on Asia. Delegates and Industry experts are expected to address a variety of current topics.
The registration for the conference can also be done through the SPIA Asia 2017 online platform www.spiaasia.com.
Do SPIA ASIA 2017 participants get preferred rates on hotel room bookings?
