SPIA Asia / Judging Panel
The Judging Panel is composed of seasoned sports industry personalities representing various fields who have unceasingly dedicated themselves in improving their respective crafts. Members of the panel have vast understanding of the Asian sporting landscape. Collectively convening on the final judging day, members of the judging panel will scrutinize shortlisted category entries and select winning entries.
Ahmed Abdulla Al Qubaisi
An experience and enthusiastic communications executive with a wide range of skills across multiple sports and in differing cultures. Possesses a global outlook having been in the Middle East, Australia and Asia and moving from Sports Editor, Assistant Editor and Associate Editor roles to management roles in communications.
Currently heading the AFC Communications Department since September 2015, which comprises Content, Media, Media Operations, Audiovisual and Social Responsibility units. Responsible for developing and upgrading the AFC’s messages and branding to the world’s biggest football community.
Recommending and developing strategies and programmes to realise the social responsibility efforts of the AFC, contributing to Asian society by creating opportunities through football as a platform to support communities in Asia.

Fernando De Matos
In addition to his role with ESP Properties, Matt is Deputy Head of Investment for GroupM across the APAC region and also leads the GroupM Content team.
The ESPP business operates across 16 markets in APAC and comprises the largest network of brand-focused content agency businesses (embedded within the GroupM media management agencies) in the region, with more than 300 dedicated specialists developing content strategy, production, measurement, optimization and integration for some of the world’s largest advertisers and brands—including Unilever, P&G, PepsiCo, Colgate and Ford, as well as many others. These businesses include Mindshare Content+, MEC Wavemaker, Maxus Content and Mediacom MBA.
Matt also oversees GroupM’s Content Investment business (GroupM Entertainment) in the region. GroupM Entertainment was formed in growing response to the Group’s interest in getting better access to premium content and inventory to benefit client and audience needs.
Matt is based in Singapore and has been in the region for over 3 years and was previously with Omnicom in London managing their Trading and Content teams in the UK. Matt has worked in TV sales, at NBC Sports and with Publicis, Omnicom and prior to his current GroupM role, was with Mediacom as Chief Investment Officer for APAC.
Shaun McEwan is the former General Manager of the Asian Sponsorship Association and has been involved in Sports and Events for over 20 years. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Shaun is now based permanently in Singapore.
Currently the Ambassador for the Fund-Raising Auction Services company the Helping Hand Group. His role takes him to over 80 events per year across the region. He is also an accomplished Master of Ceremony, Keynote Speaker and Corporate Trainer.
Tony Chu, aged 49, MBA, Hong Kong Chinese is a seasoned sports organizer and renowned at Ultra Marathon field. He currently serves as Secretary General of the Hong Kong Ultra Marathon Association. Annually, he organizes 6-8 races in Hong Kong and China.
His industry awards include Gold Prize, Best Mass Participation Event – SPIA 2016 and Bronze Prize, Best Sport Organization – SPIA 2016 and 2017. Tony’s Hong Kong Spirit Ultra Marathon team owned its World Record “10 Men total running mileage in 24hrs”.
In addition to his Sports industry achievement in recent years, Tony also had sound career in Greater China. He served as Senior Executive at MNC and listed company over 20 years and was once award recipient for the 10 Best China CMO in 2008.
